Riding and worring

Last Thursday, riding friends, Sharon and Susan, and I rode to Arivaca, Arizona. It is a ride we have been talking about doing for about a year and a half. We meet in the town of Green Valley, take the freeway frontage road to the town of Amado and then head west to Arivaca. It was up hill and into a headwind to for 20 + miles into Arivaca. We averaged slightly over 10 mph. (Pretty dismal) On the way back however, we were slightly over 17 mph. Show you what a downhill with a tail wind can do for you.

I have had some nerves about the upcoming bicycle trip. I know I am in good shape and ready for the ride but I do keep thinking about how long it is. Three thousand miles is a long way.

A special thanks to all of you who have been following this blog and have posted comments. Thanks so much and please keep it up. It is really important for me to hear from you all when I am on this trip!

Yes, it is long, but I don't remember being ready for it to end until somewhere in FL. Of course, it began to get really hot then, too. Just keep a positive attitude and enjoy each day's adventure. You're going to be just fine. Clark

You are going to have such an awesome experience! I am glad you were finally about to get in this ride with your buddies. I am sure they are going to miss you while you are gone. Looking forward to seeing you in 10 days!

Hi Patty - I remember the Arivaca 'hill' and hope you had a big cuppa at the cute little coffee shop at the top. You're going to do just great on the cross country trip, so many new things to see, so many climate changes to experience, so many great people along the way--and you're trained for it all!
Enjoy, see you in LA. Georgia

Oh you are going to have such a great time! I am SOOOOO jealous!! Now, when you are at the "end of your rope" and feel that your legs can't go one more rotation, call on Cheryl and I will take over! Or at least give you a gentle push!
Remember, we will all be living vicariously through you these next weeks! Best of luck!

hey patty, the picture of the coffee company sure brought back some happy memories of the spring trip the sag guy and I did last year. I remember that hill, and the downhill as well. Here's hoping that there is nothing as steep and difficult as gates pass in our climbs. Although I did manage to eventually make it to the top without walking. I pooped out of the down hill on the other side though..It looked just a little stomach dropping terror on wheels, with only a cactus patch in the bottom run out at the curve. someday I will go back and do both sides.

see you soon.
