Riding and worring

Last Thursday, riding friends, Sharon and Susan, and I rode to Arivaca, Arizona. It is a ride we have been talking about doing for about a year and a half. We meet in the town of Green Valley, take the freeway frontage road to the town of Amado and then head west to Arivaca. It was up hill and into a headwind to for 20 + miles into Arivaca. We averaged slightly over 10 mph. (Pretty dismal) On the way back however, we were slightly over 17 mph. Show you what a downhill with a tail wind can do for you.

I have had some nerves about the upcoming bicycle trip. I know I am in good shape and ready for the ride but I do keep thinking about how long it is. Three thousand miles is a long way.

A special thanks to all of you who have been following this blog and have posted comments. Thanks so much and please keep it up. It is really important for me to hear from you all when I am on this trip!

Progress being made

As promised here are the two sides of my new computer "bag/case". I have completed piecing them and machine quilting them. Now all I have to do is figure out how I want to sew them together and then line the bag. I keep going back and forth in my mind as to do I want to have a draw string closing the bag or do I use Velcro. Right now I am leaning toward the draw string. The two blocks are actually the same size they just don't look like it because of the camera angle and cropping.

Today, I went for another short ride. It was only supposed to be one hour but I ended up doing about and hour twenty because it was such a beautiful day. Sunday I am scheduled to to a century and the weather is not very promising.

Tomorrow Angela comes for a short visit. She has a high school friend that is getting married Saturday and she is coming for the wedding. Always fun when one of the girls comes for a visit.

Rest Day #2

My friend Sharon does Ironman Triathlons. Last summer after she completed her fourth she took some time off from major training. She made the comment to me that she found she was actually getting things completed in her life when she wasn't training. I have felt that way the last two days. Because I am down to less than four weeks before I leave for my cross country, trip my coach has made this a drop down week in training. Yesterday and today are rest days! Tomorrow and Thursday I only have one hour to ride and Friday is another rest day. Of course, I am doing a century on Sunday so this is not a total slug week.

Soooooooooo, I have been taking advantage of this time off the bicycle. I finished this pair of socks. I started them ages ago but put them aside for some unknown reason. (Probaby had to finish some Christmas knitting). I have also begun working on a quilted carrying bag for my mini computer. I will post pictures of it when it is finished.

When I went outside to take the pictue of the sock I realized that one of the trees in my back yard thinks it is Spring. Sure hope we don't get another freeze.
